Gaining access to Yggdrasil Gaming’s library of readymade online slot mechanisms is one possible perk of forming a partnership with the casino game developer. Numerous studios have used them, with varied degrees of success. In a weird sci-fi game called Giganimals Gigablox, the daddy company finally gets to show off its Gigablox mechanic. It’s an uncommon, albeit intriguing, combination of animals, aliens, Gigablox’s, batteries, and the ability to detect external impacts.
The game of Giganimals Gigablox takes place on the surface of a planet extremely different from our own. The exotic, off-world experience is suggested by the lighting, the vegetation on the right side of the screen (or is that habitation?), and the creatures. Secretive, detective-like music adds to the adventurous spirit of Giganimals Gigablox. And why are there four collecting meters and four flying animal UFOs sitting there? It’s anyone’s guess, but because we’re dealing with science fiction, it’s probably better to simply go with it.
The first step in your intergalactic adventure is to choose your wager, which must be at least 20 p/c every spin and no more than £/€100. You may do this on any device, and the screen will have a grid of 6 reels and 4 rows, with 40 fixed paylines across which you can win. The very unpredictable slot machine Giganimals Gigablox features four different return to player models, and players may verify which version they’re playing by consulting the game’s paytable.
While there are six reels, they can combine to produce bigger symbols of 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, 5×5, or 6×6 size during the main game and free spins. Larger symbols are reduced to normal 1×1 sized symbols for evaluation of wins. Six of a kind in Giganimals Gigablox pays out 2 times the wager regardless of which of the four battery symbols landed on. These are followed by four alien symbols that appear to be friendly, and a line of six of these will pay out 4-8 times the wager. The wild symbol, which is featured throughout this section, completes all six reels. Wilds can replace ordinary pay symbols to create winning combinations, and combinations of six wilds pay up to twenty times the wager.
Slot Machine Featuring Giant Animals from the World of Gigablox
Even low-paying icons have a chance to get wild. When the base game’s Wild Surge feature is triggered, one of the four lower-pay symbols may be replaced by a wild symbol. Furthermore, low-pay symbols that result in winnings are added to the corresponding collecting meter located on the side of the reels. Random multipliers in the range of x1 to x5 are applied to the meter values. When a certain meter is full, the Collection Free Spins feature is activated.
Amassing Free Turns
When this feature is activated, players receive 5–24 free spins. Those who aren’t satisfied with their share have the option of placing more wagers on a wheel, with the caveat that a spin that ends in a loss means they lose everything. The low payout symbol that initiated the feature remains wild for the duration. As in the main game, when a low-pay symbol’s meter is full, that symbol goes wild and you get two more free spins.
Bonus Turns for Scatters
You may also trigger the bonus round by getting at least five scatter symbols (counted in their 1×1 size) to appear on the reels. One bonus spin is awarded for each scatter that was the catalyst. Gambling for further spins and access to the low-pay symbols set remain unchanged from prior iterations. When a meter is full, a wild symbol appears and you receive an additional two free games.
Pay for a Boost
In markets where it is available, the bonus purchase may be used to unlock one of Giganimals Gigablox’s bonus rounds immediately. Free spins may be purchased for 10-24 for 75x the wager, for 24 for 150x the bet, or for 24 for 250x the bet with one low pay turned wild.
Slot Judgment for Giganimals in Gigablox
When I was looking through the paytable and getting a feel for the game, I couldn’t help but have the sneaking sense that there was some outside influence at play. A Yggdrasil Gaming slot machine, this was not. Or at least not a machine made entirely by Yggdrasil Gaming. The user interface and menus reminded me (not in a negative sense; just an observation) of something Reflex Gaming, a developer that has experimented with this feature before (see Desperate Dawgs 2 Gigablox). Giganimals Gigablox’s low-pay winning symbol gathering feature, on the other hand, seemed like a direct successor of Vikings Go Berserk. It’s close, but it’s not the same. The low-paying symbols in Giganimals Gigablox are never required to win a combat; they are either wild or not, but are never sticky.
Unlike its Norse counterparts, Giganimals Gigablox isn’t jam-packed with bonus rounds and free spins. When symbols haven’t been converted to wilds, free spins are just free spins, which can get boring. There was also a notable distinction between free spins with a wild low symbol and those without, in terms of both entertainment value and financial payoff. In Giganimals Gigablox, the maximum payout is 5,120 times the initial wager.
If you just said to yourself, “pah, numbers shnumbers,” and are in need of a fun, out-there sci-fi slot to get your Gigablox on, then Giganimals Gigablox could be for you. It’s not even close to being Yggdrasil Gaming’s best use of the idea, and although there are exciting moments to be had, you might need to be willing to put in some serious time or money to find them.
